Superman wrapped, more films using Vancouver Island backdrop

The Island North Film Commission has stepped up efforts to attract various commercial and film productions to the region.

The crew of the new Superman film 'Man of Steel' have just left BC and gone into post-production, after transforming Ucluelet into an Alaskan fishing village and shooting scenes under the code-name 'Autumn Frost.'

"This is a great start to 2012, we just completed our fifth project in January, so it ran the gamet from U-K productions, to a television crew from Belgium, to TV commercials," enthused Island North Film Commissioner Joan Miller on success in landing scores of production crews shooting segments throughout the region.

"We are working on three big feature films, that are attracted to regions along the West Coast, along with other communities that had kind of a cluster effect for film production," continued Miller, who says she can't divulge the movie titles or areas targetted for film shoots at this point in time.

Miller says staff have been extremely busy laying down the groundwork in ongoing efforts to turn this region into a kind of Hollywood-North.

INFC serves everything north of Nanaimo, including the Comox Valley, Campbell River, the Port Hardy area, the west coast and the Powell River Region.
